My Suspension Wont Reduce The Cost Of Bread Wereko Brobby

Suspended member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Charles Wereko-Brobby says the decision by the partys National Executive Committee to suspend him will make it easier for him to comment more on issues bothering the nation. It will also not stop him from commenting on party matters, he said on Accra-based Joy FM, adding that his suspension which was leaked to the media before he was officially notified did not come as a surprise to him since there was total lack of respect, total lack of decorum and lack of due process within the party. Dr Wereko-Brobby was hauled before the partys disciplinary committee for remarks he made through several publications in the print and online media on its decision to challenge the outcome of the 2012 presidential election at the Supreme Court which the party found offensive. The New Statesman newspaper on Tuesday July 9, 2013 reported that Dr Wereko-Brobby had thus been suspended by the partys NEC and was to write an apology letter within one week for bringing the name of the party into disrepute. For the two years that his membership will be suspended, he is to further refrain from making any disparaging remarks about the party, the Statesman newspaper reported. The partys Communications Director, Nana Akomea earlier on the same programme apologised to Dr Wereko-Brobby, explaining that the party owed him (Dr Wereko-Brobby) some apology over the leaked decision of the NEC before he was notified. Dr Wereko-Brobby however described the apology as perfunctory and that he (Nana Akomea) was just saying it for the sake of it. He added that his suspension is not going to change the price of bread or the way he does things. Its probably going to make it easier for me to express my views on matters such as the irresponsible behaviour of the general secretary of the party in almost certainly ruining the partys chances by his insults of the judiciary who are hearing the petition. Those are matters I can now comment on freely and without any compunction. Asked whether he would return to the party after the expiration of his suspension, Dr Wereko-Brobby said such considerations would be taken after the party has been able to put together a credible leadership.
