Volta Lake Project Set To Take Off

The Minister of Transport, Dzifa Ativor has indicated that the Volta Lake will soon undergo some major changes in order to safeguard the lives of commuters who use the lake as a means of transportation. According to her, it is imperative that people who commute on the lake are guided to avert any dangers associated with their operations on the lake. Speaking to Radio Gold, the Transport Minister assured Ghanaians that her Ministry will in August this year distribute some boats to augment the number of boats used on the lake. She further indicated that since 2010, the Ministry has trained over 8400 young people to �make sure that there�s decency as far as operations on the lake are concerned. They make sure there�s no overloading. We supply them with life jackets which they have to make sure the passengers wear them in case of any accident.� Also, the Ministry has equipped the Navy with patrol boats to check the activities of the commuters, she noted. The Minister further disclosed that as part of the Volta Lake Project which is to be funded by a loan from China, the Transport Ministry is undertaking some measures to streamline operations on the lake. She hoped the Volta Lake Project would help �to improve upon the facilities. We are going to build about 18 Landing sites.
