Alomo Party For Ken Kuranchie

Workers of the jailed Managing News Editor of the Daily Searchlight Newspaper, Kenneth Agyei Kuranchie, are preparing to hold a special Alomo party to welcome him from jail. Tomorrow Thursday, June 11th marks the end of Kuranchies 10-day jail sentence slapped on him, by the Supreme Court for criminal contempt. Kuranchie and Stephen Atubiga of the NDC were both found guilty of the offence, but the latter went in for only three days arguably due to his apologetic posture in court, as against Kuranchies initial attempt to defend his conduct. There have been reports of ill treatment by prison authorities meted out to Kuranchie, who was moved from one prison to the other for more than once allegedly without notice to his family. Workers at Daily Searchlight expressed shock at the sentence on their boss and the alleged maltreatment by the prisons officers. But they told Adom News they are glad he is returning tomorrow and they are preparing to hold a gargantuan party for him with Alomo bitters as the main drink on the menu. The workers said they are in the process of arranging foods and drinks to welcome their boss after his liberation. One worker said glory be to God our boss is coming back home. We are going to welcome our boss in grand style and hail him as a hero, another said. They are therefore calling on the general public to join them in their office as they prepare to hold a party at their premises at Pig Farm in Accra. They have promised to hire a vehicle to meet their boss from the prison. But the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ghana Prisons Service, Courage Atsem has cautioned sympathizers and well-wishers of Mr. Kuranchie to desist from converging in front of the Prisons gate. He said that they would seek the help of the Ghana Police Service if the need arises. Atsem has however confirmed that Mr. Kuranchie will be released latest by 9:00am on Thursday.
