Ken Kuranchie Out Today

Ken Adjei Kuranchie will be released from jail today. The Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Searchlight was sentenced to 10-days in prison by the Supreme Court for criminal contempt. He was sentenced on Tuesday, July 02, 2013, with Stephen Atubiga, a member of the Communication Team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The two stepped on the wrong foot of the law when they made comments described as contemptuous after the Supreme Court drew a final touch line on comments that will be made concerning the ongoing election petition. Ken Kuranchie in serving his 10-day sentence was shipped from one prison cell to the other, a move the Prison officials described as a security act to protect him. He was first taken to Nsawam, moved to Ho Prisons and then to Kete Krachi. This move was however condemned by family members, members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as well as human rights advocates. Meanwhile, Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Prisons Service, Francis Agyirey-Kwakye, cautioned on Okay FM that no group should come to the prisons to disturb its serenity all in a bid in welcoming Ken Kuranchie out of prisons. He said it will be appropriate for only the wife and a few family members to welcome him.
