Government says it is not to be blamed for the delay in the payment of UTAG's market premium. Speaking to Radio Ghana, Deputy Minister of Education, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said the request to pay market premium came too late from the lecturers. Mr Okudzeto Ablakwa gave the assurance that government will fulfill its part of the agreement with UTAG. Meanwhile, the University Teachers Association of Ghana, UTAG, has threatened to go on strike by the end of this month if government fails to complete the payment of their market premium. The Association embarked on a similar strike in April this year but had to abort the action because government promised to pay the arrears in four tranches. The President of the Association, Dr Anthony Simons, said all attempts to get government to pay the monies have failed. He said the decision to embark on the strike has been communicated to all stakeholders including the TUC, Labour Commission and government.
