Theres No Immediate Harm From Zambeef; Product Not In Ghana FDA Allays Fears

The head of the Inspectorate Division of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has indicated that banned products of Zambeef Plc in Zambia are not yet in the country. We are just cautioning people, Kofi Essel stressed on TV3s 7GMT on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, as regards a release issued by the Authority on Monday. He noted that the release was to alert Ghanaians who may travel to that part of the world to beware of the danger in consuming the contraband beef product. Zambeef Plc is said to be using high concentrations of aromatic Aldehydes, a chemical used to embalm dead bodies, in preserving its products. The release signed by the Chief Executive Officer of FDA, Dr Stephen Opuni, said Zambeef Plc operates in Ghana and Nigeria as well and so he cautioned the general public against importation, sale, and distribution any beef products of Zambeef Plc. There is no immediate harm because we dont have the product in the country, Mr Essel told TV3s Wendy Laryea. It is a proactive measure, he emphasized.
