Parliament CCTV Cameras Breaks Down

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkoranza North in the Brong Ahafo Region, Major Derek Oduro (Rtd) has asked the leadership of Parliament to take the security of parliament and parliamentarians seriously. He said he has called for the enhancement of the security of Members of Parliament (MPs) and the edifice on several occasions but all have fallen on deaf ears. He noted that any bad person can take advantage of what he described as some security lapses in the House to create security problems for MPs. We have members of parliament who are very old and if there should be any security attack in the form of bomb or grenade they would be found wanting, he noted. The Nkoranza North MP, who was speaking to DAILY GUIDE in Parliament, said currently most CCTV cameras installed in the House are not working, adding that visitors who come to the parliament house should be taken through stringent security checks. We must have more body security scanners and employ more security people to ensure that every visitor to parliament house is properly checked to find whether or not he or she is not carrying any offensive weapon, We are politicians and belong to different parties so we are prone to political attacks, he said He noted that apart from these security lapses emergency exits to the chamber of parliament are always locked which is not good because in case of emergency there would not be any immediate point of exit for MPs. These emergency exit doors should not be closed for the sake of security of members of parliament, he said. He therefore called on the leadership of the house and government as a whole not to take the security of parliamentarians for granted.
