Chief Executive of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Rudolph P.K Beckley has called on private and commercial drivers in the country to submit their vehicles to the authority for assessment.
Speaking on Radio Gold on Wednesday, Mr. Beckley noted that every driver is duty bound to make an annual assessment of his/her vehicle with DVLA to check its road worthiness.
According to him, commercial drivers are mandated by law to submit their vehicles twice each year for a thorough examination to ascertain and fix any faults associated with the vehicles.
�If you are using a vehicle for commercial purposes, because of the rate of use, you submit the vehicle twice in a year which means that half-yearly, you submit that vehicle to the authorities for assessment examination�Private vehicles must go once a year�� he said.
Mr. Beckley also advised drivers to ensure that their vehicles do not experience break failures, which according to him, is a key causative agent of road accidents and they should have fire extinguishers in their vehicles to avert any possible dangers.
This, he added, is part of the series of tests that the vehicles will be taken through during assessment because if a driver does �not have a fire extinguisher in the vehicle, that vehicle must fail the test.�
