The devil, they say finds work for the idle hands and no nation would want to breed such people. Through the collaborative effort of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and the Kumasi Polytechnic, a program has been designed to enhance the skills of tertiary students. Christened the Ghana Student Industrial Attachment Program, it is to equip the youth with skills during long vacations. According to the rector of the Kumasi Polytechnic, �the essence of this program is that during vacations, students would be posted to factories or specific destinations to have first hand experiences about what they have learnt. Before school resumes, they would have learnt everything taught in class�. Speaking in an interview with Okay FM, Professor Nicholas Nicodemus Nana Nsowah-Nuamah stated that the aim of the program is to balance learning theories in with practical experiences. In his view, polytechnic experience isn�t only about writing and taking part in examinations but about acquiring a business skill after school. He stated that the workshop would broaden the knowledge of students in terms of experience about a specific profession they have learnt about. The programs manager, Mr. Nathaniel Ebo Nsarkoh also adds that 15,000 tertiary students would be selected from nationwide tertiary institutions to participate in the event. Mr. Nsarkoh noted that the attachment program is scheduled to last for two months to equip polytechnic students with skills. He added that those selected to partake in the program would be paid with allowances in the course of the training.
