'Overhaul Justice Department' - Prez Directs A-G

President John Dramani Mahama has asked the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice to immediately carry out reforms at the AGs department in order to make it more effective. The President has also directed the A-G to embark on reforms of the legal system to help improve justice delivery and accessibility and to put in place mechanisms that will ensure that lawyers at the department go to court to defend government cases. It is believed that the directives will go a long way to end the streak of avoidable losses suffered by successive governments in court as a result of institutional failure. Deputy Information Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, disclosed this at the Daily Media Briefing at the Presidency, Tuesday. "The President said the reform should focus on a number of issues. One, improve the training of government lawyers; develop a scheme for enabling increasing funding of the sector; to develop automatic processes to enable tracking of cases, attendance in court and attitude to work schedule, in addition to digital record keeping to ensure the maintenance of accurate records of government cases."
