Self-Styled Doctor Arrested For Fraud

A self-styled doctor who allegedly duped four women of various sums of money, both in foreign and local currencies, has been arrested by the Police at East Legon in Accra. The suspects, Alyin Fiifi Owusu, 38, was said to have defrauded hotels and also collected items from his victims and issued dud cheques to them and later absconded. Owusu�s modus operandi was that he dressed as a medical doctor and rode in rented cars driven by chauffeurs and went round his victims. He is also said to have used different names such as Dr. Kofi Terkper Mensah and Dr. Owusu in duping his victims who are businesswomen and a banker. Owusu is said to have cases of fraud against him at some police stations. The Police Affairs of the Accra Regional Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Freeman Tettey, told The Ghanaian Times that the suspects went to a hotel at East Legon in Accra with fake particulars. Owusu lodged at the hotel for two months, signed a dud cheque for $6000 and later absconded. He said after some weeks he went to boutique at Labone and Spinsters in Accra and selected quantities of jeans, shoes, shirts, belts and other items and issued dud cheques for $28,000 and GH₵4,000, respectively and later absconded. DSP Tettey said he later approached his next victim who is a banker and convinced her to pay an amount of GH₵5,200 for the supply of clothing and shoes for sale. He said the victims lodged a complaint with the police and during an operation; Owusu was arrested at his hideout at a hotel at East Legon. DSP Tettey said Owusu was in the custody of the police assisting in investigations and would be arraigned before court soon. DSP Tettey called on the public who had fallen victim to report to the police.
