Volta Police To Deal Ruthlessly With Criminals

The Volta Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Fred Agyepong Asare has called on the people in the region to fully collaborate with the police in their effort to protect life and property which he said was the priority of the new police administration saying the police in the region would deal ruthlessly with criminals. ACP Agyepong Asare, who took over command of the police administration in the region, recently disclosed that the priority of his administration was to engage police personnel in various communities in the region to regularly educate the people on safety measures to adopt against criminal activities to aid the visibility policy of the police administration in communities. The Volta Region Police Commander who made the call at a press briefing in Ho in relation with a number of people arrested for committing different criminal offenses including Theophilus Agbeko with four boxes containing telecommunication gadgets named SIM BOX including a laptop suspected to be used in terminating international calls. ACP Agyepong Asare explained that on the 26th of July, 2013, at about 4:00 pm, the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority at the Asikuma checkpoint arrested the suspect and handed him over to the police to conduct thorough investigations as to what the items were used for, and when the police invited technical personnel from Tigo telecommunication, it was established that the equipments were used for intercepting international calls. According to the Police Commander, criminal activities were on the increase particularly as criminals break into peoples� homes and took away their property stressing that robbing people of their motorbikes was a major security threat that the police were ready to combat in the region. ACP Agyepong Asare disclosed that so far the police were on high alert and prepared to deal with people engaged in criminal activities noting that the police had retrieved nine stolen motorbikes and arrested nine suspected robbers who were currently in police custody to be put before court. He said the police arrested Prosper Gadri and Michael Kofi Seke with two unregistered Sanya and DVS motorbikes with the suspects, which the police suspected them of stealing the bikes and upon interrogation they admitted stealing them and went further to state that two of the stolen motorbikes were kept with one Agbeko Agbesi. ACP Agyepong Asare continued that the police then proceeded to Agbeko Agbesi�s house with the assistance of Prosper Gadri and Michael Kofi Seke but Agbeko Agbesi was not in the house as at the time the police went to the house but two unregistered motorbikes were retrieved from the house. He said the police later arrested Atsu Gbemu and Kwabla Afevienyeku in connection with the stolen motorbikes adding that robbers also broke into a house belonging to a Ho based contractor, Mr. Wilberk Godfred Okaidza and made away with valuables including mobile phones, computers and clothes. The Regional Police Commander said the police later arrested David Dzormeku who is one of the workers with the contractor, also pointed out other accomplices, were arrested and are in police custody as investigation into the case continues.
