A Driver, last Thursday, narrowly escaped death when he was attacked unexpectedly by an irate youth over an alleged chieftaincy dispute.
The victim, Mutari Ibrahim Oto, 45, was on his way home from the house of Luluanu Abass, a youth chief at Fadama, a group of Muslims to celebrate the Eid ul Fitr festivities.
One Faisal Seidu, a member of a faction which claims to be the true youth leader of a Zongo ethnic grouping at Fadama, was identified by the victim as the one who used a broken bottle and a knife to inflict cuts on him mercilessly.
The driver, who sustained deep cuts on his head, eye lid, lips, legs and hands and was bleeding profusely, had to be rushed to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for medical attention.
A report of the incident was immediately lodged with the Darkuman Police Station but Faisal Seidu, the man who is being accused of inflicting the wounds, was also at the station, claiming that he had also been attacked.
Speaking with his head, and legs bandaged, the driver said the incident happened at about 8pm on Thursday after he joined Muslim in the area with the youth chief who is his uncle.
He said earlier in the day a group of men, who were rooting for one Buari to be enskined as the youth chief of Fadama, blocked a street which was being used by another youth group who were then visiting families and groups of Muslims during the Eid UI Fitr celebration.
�When we realized the road had been blocked, we asked them to peacefully allow us to continue our journey but it turned confrontational. Luckily, it did not graduate from the exchange of words to anything worse,� said the man who said the chief had to turn around and avoid using the road.
Checks at the Darkuman Police Station indicated that the Police arrested Faisal Seidu, who was accused of attacking the driver without provocation two days after the case was reported at the station.
However, an investigator, who did not want to be named, disclosed that the case had been handed over to the Kaneshie Police Station, which is the divisional head of the Darkuman Police Station.
Many are worried that the suspects appears to have been let off the hook with no sign that he would be arraigned.
Controversies over headship of migrant ethnic communities appears to have rocked various Zongo communities especially Accra as claimants engage each other in physical fights as it happened on the day of Eid-ul Fitr.
