Mechanic Kills Mother

A 30-year-old mechanic, Yakubu Sumani, is in the firm grip of the Temale Police after he was alleged to have clubbed to death his step mother, Azara Yakubu, 55, at Gbalahi a farming village near Temale for reasons yet to be uncovered by investigators. The suspect, who until now, was residing at Madina in Accra where he plies his trade, was brought down to the village for herbal medication after he was reported to be behaving abnormally in Agbogbloshie, where he had gone for a visit. Police disclosed to Daily Guide that over the last weekend, the suspect run amok, picked a stick and hit Azure repeatedly on the head, killing her instantly. The suspect was subsequently arrested by neighbours and subjected to severe beatings before being chained in order to ensure he did not escape. The assembly man for the Kulaa Gbalahi electoral area, Alhassan Seidu, was then contacted to invite the police. The suspect was later handed over to the police together with the club used in committing the crime after an officer complaint was lodged. During interrogation, the suspect admitted the offence in his caution statement but failed to give reasons for his conduct. He was accordingly charged for murder and put before a Temale District Court, presided over by Augustine Essah, the suspect had been remanded in police custody to enable police to take him to the psychiatric hospital for extermination. Meanwhile, family members of the deceased have since buried the body of the deceased in accordance with the Islamic custom.
