Members of the Ghana Meteorological Agency at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) are threatening to embark on a strike action if management keeps paying deaf ears to their request.
According to them, they have been requesting for the provision of an accommodation for workers on duty at KIA from management but to no avail.
They have therefore threatened to put down their tools on August 27 if management is still adamant.
Speaking in an interview on Peace FM Midday news, Mr Robert Cudjoe, a member of the local union, GMA, said the issue of accommodation has been pending for the past �five years but nothing is being done about it�
�We have no problem with government but with our management. We are talking of accommodation especially for workers on duty. We are all in the aviation industry and we contribute very much to the industry but it seems as if we are not recognized in anything they discuss in the aviation industry...
We have told them our problems; it seems when we talk about accommodation, nobody bothers about it and that is why we are saying that if they will not provide accommodation for us, we can no longer use our money; the meager salary that we take to be paying rents� he pointed out.
According to him, it is mandatory for management of KIA to provide accommodation for its staff on duty; adding, ��not all of us but those on duty. The rest of us have accommodation outside even though it is putting a strain on us. If they will not respond to our grievances, then we will put down our tools by August 27th�.
If the workers go on strike, it will affect the country�s aviation industry as flights to and from Ghana will have to be cancelled.
