Ghana�s Economy Picks Up

Vice President Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur would meet the Economic Policy Coordinating Committee later on Wednesday to discuss ways of cushioning the economic sector in the coming months. They would also strategize for the smooth implementation of other policies in consonance with the manifesto and constitution of the republic. Mr Ibrahim Murtala Mohommed, a Deputy Minister for Information and Media Relations, said this during the daily media briefings at the Flagstaff House, Kanda. The Committee, which has members from The Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, Statistical Service and the National Planning and Development Commission meet on quarterly basis to review government's economic performance. The Deputy Minister said the meeting would also give them the opportunity to prescribe mechanisms that would help government to eliminate development challenges. He said the meeting would also enhance coordination and avoid duplication as various groups would now be grouped under the same committee. Mr Mohammed said the meeting would also afford them the opportunity to review their successes and find lasting solutions to the huge budgetary deficit the country experienced in the past months. He said the meeting would also give an insight on how to smoothly implement government policies in the coming years.
