Odike AttackedIn Kumasi

THE DEFEATED presidential candidate in the 2012 polls, Akwasi Addai aka Odike of the United Front Party (UFP), has become the target of insults and insinuations in Kumasi. His decision to approach President Mahama and Nana Akufo-Addo of the NPP to embrace peace ahead of the Supreme Courts verdict on the election petition seemed to have backfired. Scores of people in the Ashanti regional capital have descended heavily on Odike and his group for deciding to make themselves the self appointed peace agents in the country. Some of the people who seemed annoyed over Odike and his groups approach have registered their displeasure and anger on radio where they severely attacked the credibility of the presidential candidate to take that approach. The aggrieved Kumasi residents insisted that Odike and his group wanted to take advantage of the situation to win cheap popularity, hence have been warned to step aside and keep their mouth shut. Some other callers on radio even wanted to spill derogatory comments live on air about Odike and his group, but were prevented from doing so. The people demanded that Odike and his group should stay clear from the Supreme Court issue. Meanwhile, Odike has reacted angrily to those that have been lambasting him and his group for deciding to approach Nana Akufo-Addo and President Mahama to embrace peace. He said on radio that anyone that would oppose to our visit to the President and Nana Akufo-Addo, doesnt love Ghana, stressing that their mission was only meant to ensure peace in Ghana but nothing else. Odike said they only told Nana Addo and President Mahama to protect Ghanas democracy by accepting the Courts verdict for the sake of national peace and development. He said he was surprised that some people were trying to attack them for undertaking such a nationalistic approach geared towards sustaining Ghanas peace, stressing he was least perturbed about the turn of events. According to him, all the presidential candidates were the best of friends whose main agenda is to help Ghana maintain its peace, hence their decision to initiate the peace process.
