Govt Reaffirms Campaign Promise Of Establishing 200 SHS

The Minister of Education, Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman, says plans are far advanced to achieve the target set to make secondary education accessible to all citizens irrespective of their locality. Prof. Opoku Agyeman said this at the 51st Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools in Koforidua in the Eastern Region. The conference brought together about one thousand headmasters and headmistresses of government secondary schools across the country to discuss issues affecting the governance of schools. The minister said as the population grows, new schools are to be established with new programmes in accordance with the new policies to be implemented. Prof Opoku Agyeman explained that, the new policies will mainstream kindergarten, which requires more qualified teachers to give the children better foundation in education. On the proposed new colleges of education, she said, it is in the right direction. Prof Opoku Agyeman advised the heads to discharge their roles and ensure high sense of discipline among their staff and students.
