President John Dramani Mahama's directive to all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to embark on and complete their street naming programmes within 18 months is on course.
Consultations and feasibility studies on various projects have been completed, while some of the cities and municipalities have already embarked on the exercise.
Mr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, a Deputy Minister of Information and Media Relations, said these on Tuesday during the daily media briefings at the Flagstaff House, Kanda.
President Mahama, in February this year, authorized all the MMDCEs to start and complete their street naming programmes within 18 months to enhance the socio-economic development of the country.
He also gave the assurance that government had earmarked a substantial amount of money for the exercise and the MMDCEs had no reason to renege on that mandate.
Mr Mohammed said apart from making the cities and towns accessible, the exercise would also raise government revenue as the relevant revenue agencies would easily locate businesses in their areas of jurisdiction.
He said the street naming would also speed up health delivery as the ambulance services would easily locate houses and suburbs in times of emergencies.
On the increase of public service salaries, the Deputy Minister commended organised labour for settling on the 10 per cent increment which raised the base wage from GH� 4.84 to GH� 5.52 .
He gave the assurance that government would pay the arrears from January to August, while the new salaries would be implemented this month.
