Nana Addo Will Lead NPP Even In A Wheelchair

THE GENERAL Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John, has made yet another strong case for the defeated Presidential Candidate, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addos chances of leading the party in the 2016 elections. The NPP scribe says there is no iota of doubt about Nana Addos political future and that the defeated Presidential Candidate will attempt the Presidency for the third consecutive time in the 2016 elections. Nana Addo will lead NPP even if he is in a wheelchair, Sir John told the host of Hello FM Breakfast show, King Edward. Though it is early days yet in the political journey of the NPP towards the 2016 elections, there have been concerns over whether Nana Akufo-Addo, who will turn 72 in 2016, will still contest to lead the party for the elections. The doubts were heightened by Nana Addos concessionary speech after the final verdict of the Supreme Court during which he announced a temporary rest from politics. But one of his right hand men and General Secretary of the party, Sir John, say Nana Addo has not retired from politics and will lead the party in 2016. He noted that the issue about age should not be a matter at all and must not be considered in choosing who leads the party for the 2016 elections, adding as long as Nana Akufo-Addo is alive and strong, he will lead the party. The argument about age does not wash; how old is President Mugabe of Zimbabwe, how old is Shimon Perez of Israel, I mean those talking about age have no basis, make no mistake,Nana will lead NPP even if he is in a wheelchair, he reiterated. Lawyer Owusu Afriyie, who personally benefitted from Nana Akufo Addos popularity in the NPP, after emerging as winner in the partys National Congress in 2009, also announced his intentions to contest again for the position of General Secretary, claiming that he has diligently served the party and deserves another chance. I know I have made lots of sacrifices and commitments to this party; the humiliations, the insults and the public attacks I have endured over the years were all for the love of the party, he emphasized. Whilst Nana Akufo-Addo is likely to face competition from his usual political foes like Alan Kyerematen and Isaac Osei, Lawyer Owusu Afriyie is most likely will meet his match in the affable Nana Akomea, the Communication Director of the party, whilst the former General Secretary, Nana Ohene Ntow, is also said to be nursing a come-back ambition.
