Members of the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) in the public universities have withdrawn their services following the failure of Fair Wages and Salary Commission (FWSC) to resolve the grievances of the union. It said the FWSC abandoned the technical committee it set out to deal with the issues and never also sought to make the body functional. In a press release issued in Accra on Saturday, the Union said since February when their concerns were submitted, it had not been given any attention despite a communiqu� issued to that effect. The release signed by Mr Peter K. Lumor and Mr Raph Apayaa, the National Chairman and the General Secretary respectively, said the decision was taken last Friday by members of the Committee of Universities Local Unions (CULUE) of TEWU at its meeting. The release which was also signed by Mr Charles Arthur, Chairman of CULUE, numerated their concerns follows: to review the Single Spine Salary Structure of Public universities in order to correct the disparities and distortions in the grading structure of the universities employees; to restore risk allowance, cashier�s allowance, electricity subsidy allowance, 15 per cent special allowance and hospital allowance. The rest are to restore the annual incremental credits as from the implementation of the Single Spine Pay Policy; the introduction of the critical support for teaching, learning and research allowance for the employees of the universities.
