General Secretary of the People�s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) not to drag the integrity of the Electoral Commission in the mud. Bernard Mornah, speaking in an interview with Radio Gold, admonished the major opposition party members to uphold in high esteem the dignity of the Commission since it is the same institution that has in previous years conducted successful elections in the country. Noting down the character of the NPP, Mr. Mornah explained that the party seems to take delight in discrediting institutions in the nation and therefore advised it to refrain from such conduct. �No matter what it is, the Electoral Commission will be the one that will conduct the elections in this country. And indeed, it is this Electoral Commission that conducted the elections from 1992 till the year 2000 when the NPP won the elections and the same Electoral Commission declared the elections in their favour...It is important for all of us therefore to hold in esteem the dignity of the Electoral Commission and to preserve it.� According to him, the NPP�s doubt about the Commission�s credibility may cause mayhem and also ruin the party�s fortunes. �If the NPP begin now to doubt the Electoral Commission, it means they are not willing to participate in the democratic process any longer. They are doing that at the peril of the existence of their own party,� he stated. He therefore advised the NPP together with all political parties in the country �to give the Electoral Commission, benefit of the doubt to believe that the Electoral Commission is willing and ready to accept reforms and input from the political parties. We don�t think that we should impose on the Electoral Commission what they should not implement.�
