NPP: Attacks On Asantehene Must Cease Immediately

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has condemned an allegation fingering Otumfuo Osei Tutu ll as having a hand in the final ruling of the Supreme Court. According to them, the Asantehene is highly respected both locally and internationally; therefore it is unnecessary and insignificant to associate him with such an allegation. Below Is A Copy Of Their Full Statement The New Patriotic Party is disgusted by attempts being made by some persons and media outlets to drag the name of the Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II, into disrepute. The NPP associates itself with the statement issued by the Manhyia Palace in describing as reprehensible and insulting a publication by the New Free Press that made wild claims to effect that the Otumfuor Osei Tutu II bribed some Supreme Court Justices to influence the outcome of the election petition in favour of President Mahama. The NPP, as a party, has always respected the Chieftaincy institution and notes with pride the role of Chiefs in upholding and preserving our cultural and traditional values. Otumfuor Osei Tutu has played a significant role in all spheres of nation building, and his Education Endowment Fund, which awards scholarships and bursaries to needy but brilliant students, is a shining example for all to see. In addition to this, his role as a mediator in resolving the Dagbon crisis cannot be overlooked. The NPP is urging all persons who are bent on denigrating the reputation and image of Otumfuor Osei Tutu to desist from these shameful and disgraceful acts. The NPP further cautions its members not to get involved in such acts. The party is of the firm belief and conviction that Otumfuor Osei Tutu II has never been involved in any of these matters being alleged. signed Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie NPP General Secretary
