Im Not Gunning For Sir Johns Position

The grapevine was filled with reports a couple of months ago that Nana Akomea, Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was nursing the ambition to contest for the position of Chief Scribe of the party. The rumour mill also indicated that as a result of this, there were several infractions between the two; Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie also known as Sir John, the current General Secretary of the NPP and Nana Akomea, resulting in instances where they contradicted each other. Coupled with the pressure on the fire brand General Secretary to resign his position for what many NPP faithful believe was a disgrace to the party, after he was subpoenaed by the apex court and subsequently convicted for criminal contempt, some would have thought Nana Akomea will take advantage of the situation to oust the NPP Chief Scribe, once and for all. But the Director of NPP Communications announced on Metro TVs Good Morning Ghana on Wednesday that, he would not run for the General Secretary position. Nana Akomea answered with an emphatic no to the question as to whether he was going to contest for position. Though he acknowledges a lot of people would be disappointed by his announcement. He made the disclosure during a discussion on the call by some National Executive members of the NPP, for Nana Akufo Addo, the 2012 presidential candidate to contest for the flagbearership in 2016.
