Minister Lashes At Staff For Lateness

Alhaji Limuna Mohammed-Muniru, Upper East Regional Minister, on Tuesday scolded staff of decentralized departments especially heads of departments at the Bongo District for their lukewarm attitude to time at events and official meetings. Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru said development would be difficult if citizens were not disciplined in terms of adherence to time especially by district staff. The Minister said this at Bongo when he addressed heads of decentralized departments who turned out late at the endorsement of the District Chief Executive. Even though the Bongo District is more than two decades old, it has remained rural as the area lacks social and administrative infrastructure, especially residential accommodation for civil servants. In view of this bizarre negligence by successive governments, most civil servants especially heads of departments live in Bolgatanga, the regional capital and have to ply the about 14 kilometres daily to and from Bongo. The Minister said with such an attitudinal challenge facing the district, it would be difficult to address the development needs of the area should the trend remain. He advised them to live by the principles of his administration especially regarding the adherence to time and said he would strictly observe and monitor all districts to ensure that public and civil servants worked within the working hours and added We will not tolerate lateness any more. He said the people of the Bongo needed services of decentralized offices and that when such attitude continued it could ruin the pace of development in the district. Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru called on civil servants to live above party politics and work for the development of the area instead of sabotaging their political opponents who are in the district to work for the improvement of the lives of the people. I would respect any person from any political divide who would live and work by my principles, he said
