AFAG: What Kind Of Apology?...Afari-Gyan Should Be Out Before Any Reforms Can Take Place

The Alliance For Accountable Governance (AFAG) has strongly indicated that it has no apology to render to Dr. Afari-Gyan, Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC). This was after Bernard Mornah, General Secretary of the Peoples National Convention (PNC) asked them to apologise for calling for the head of the EC Boss and accusing him of incompetence. AFAG in a statement accused the Chairman of the EC of negligence or incompetence. They also stated that it finds the continuous stay of Dr. Afari-Gyan in office as unconscionable and an act against reason. Speaking in an interview on Peace FM news, Mr. Opoku Davis, Operational Director of AFAG quizzed: What kind of apology. According to him, the EC Boss as well as the Commission itself should rather apologise to the Ghanaian electorate for allowing so many malpractices in the previous elections. What kind of apology? If anybody is to apologize, it will be Dr. Afari-Gyan and the EC; they need to apologise to Ghanaians and not us (AFAG). If he (Afari-Gyan) didnt do his work well, why should we apologise to him. He noted that no electoral reform will be well executed by the EC if Dr. Afari-Gyan still stays in office. He has nothing to say...the EC requested for recommendation for electoral reforms and a lot of people have reacted to it. Clearly, you will realize that looking at the number of people who are speaking to reforming the electoral laws have a problem with what happened in the previous election; hence the need for reforms. We are saying that before there will be any reform, Dr. Afari-Gyan should be out of the way for it to be well implemented.
