Gov�t, SSNIT To Complete 6,000 Affordable Housing Units

Government has revealed that it has entered into a partnership with Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to complete the 6,000 affordable housing project started by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) regime. The project which came to a halt after the exit of the NPP in 2008 was expected to provide about 6,000 housing units for Ghanaians at an affordable rate. Speaking to Citi News during a tour to inspect an ongoing water and housing projects, the Minister for Water, Works and Housing, Collins Duada said government is committed to reducing the high housing deficit the country is currently facing. He explained that the project will begin �with the Borteiman site and also the Kumasi site at Asokore. They are the ones that initially will be completed and then we will move to the other sites in Koforidua, Tamale and Wa.� According to him, the funding of these projects �are not in doubt so we are just looking at how we can transfer some of the information we have to SSNIT to be able to continue to get the affordable houses completed.� Alhaji Dauda gave the assurance that by the end of the term of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, the project will be completed. The sector Minister further added that residents within the Adenta and Madina areas will receive constant supply of water from the end next year after the completion of three major water projects at the Kpong water works. The project is expected to add another 40 million gallons of water to the existing 40 million currently being delivered in a day. �These areas will not have problems at all. This project is intended to resolve the water shortages that are prevalent in these areas.�
