Newmont Contributes To Ahafo Development Foundation

Newmont Ghana Gold Limited (NGGL) has paid GHC 9,347,247.38 into the Ahafo Development Foundation (NADeF) as the Company�s contribution for 2012. Newmont has so far contributed GHC 28.9million into NADeF since its establishment in 2008 to promote community development at the 10 mine-take communities around the Ahafo Project of NGGL. The Company contributes US$1.00 per ounce of gold produced and one per cent of its annual net profit to the Foundation. A statement signed by Joseph Danso, Executive Secretary of NADeF and made available to the Ghana News Agency, said Mr Paul Sowley, General Manager in charge of Environment and Social Responsibility, presented the advisory note for the payment of the money. Mr Danso pledged Newmont's commitment to the sustainable development of the 10 mine-take communities and said to date NADeF had completed and handed over about 43 infrastructural and social amenities including community libraries, teachers� and nurses� quarters, ICT centres and school buildings to the communities. Mr Kwame Saarah-Mensah, Board Chairman of NADeF, expressed the Foundation's appreciation to Newmont for fulfilling its commitment to the development in the Ahafo communities. Mr Saarah-Mensah said the Foundation had provided micro-credit facilities to people in the communities to go into business.
