Farmer Kills Brother Over Food

A 28-year-old farmer, who murdered his brother in an argument over what food to prepare, has been arrested by the Police at Akra Kese, near Akyem Tekyiman, in the Akwatia district of the Eastern Region. Mustapha Ben is said to have shot his brother, Alex Tettey, 25, in the abdomen with a single barrel gun, killing him on the spot, after an argument between them on their farm. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the St. Dominic Hospital, at Akwatia, awaiting autopsy. The Akwatia District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Samuel Odame, who revealed this to The Ghanaian Times yesterday, explained that last Friday, at about 1:30 pm, the two brothers went to the farm at Akra Kese to harvest some crops. After work, they decided to cook some cassava to eat as their lunch before going home. When the food was almost ready, an argument broke out between them on whether they should pound the cassava into fufu or eat it like that. The two brothers, however, could not come to an agreement, resulting in a scuffle between them. DSP Odame said Ben suddenly pulled out a single barrel gun and shot his brother in the abdomen, killing him on the spot. He then quickly ran to inform the Akyem Tekyiman Unit Committee and pleaded with them to assist him to take his brother to the hospital. When they went to the farm, the members of the committee found Tettey dead lying in a pool of blood. Ben was arrested by the members of the Unit Committee and handed him over to the Akwatia Police, who retrieved the gun from him. He would be arraigned before court soon.
