Show Of Global Support Has Been Helpful - Afetsi Awoonor

The son of the late Professor Kofi Awoonor, Afetsi Awoonor has stated that words of condolence coming from all over the world after his fathers death have been very helpful in dealing with Saturdays terrorist attack at Nairobis Westgate Mall. Afetsi Awoonor in an interview with Komla Dumor of the BBC on Tuesday, narrated the harrowing experience that left him severely injured from a gunshot wound. As we got out from the vehicle, we heard gunshots and we started running. People also ran for cover because they (the terrorists) were just firing at people. We heard the shots and I tried running out of the mall and as I ran, I was shot in the back. I kept on running until I found a place to hide. I was actually crawling so when I found a place, I tried to look back to see if I could see my father but I could not. I put my hand on my back, looked at my palm and saw that there was blood he narrated. He further stated that his decision to move away from the gunshots separated him from his father who was confirmed dead later. However, the support from people all over the world has helped to soothe some of the pain of losing a parent in such brutal circumstances. There have been words of condolence, sympathy and those of speedy recovery and they have helped a lot he said. He could not say much when asked about what would serve as a closure for his family even in the aftermath of the siege that was declared as over by Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta. I do not know and I cannot process that right now, he responded.
