It Is Time To Forget Politics And Look At The Way Forward In Fighting Terrorism - Karbo

Former National Youth Organiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Anthony Karbo, has called on government to enforce and equip the security agencies in the country to be able to fight terrorism. He said institutions like the Anti Terrorism department within the Ghana Police Service should be enforced with trained and learned people; people who have been trained in fighting terrorism; because this is a serious issue. We have anti terrorism department in this country but it is just a one room office. That is how serious we are about anti-terrorism and armed robbery in this country. The Anti-terrorism department in the police administration should be well equipped and enforced. People who are learned and have been trained in fighting terrorism should be called upon to assist in growing that department, he suggested. Karbo, who is also an aide to the partys running mate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was speaking to the attack that occurred at the Westgate Mall, Nairobi, Kenya, which led to the death of Prof Kofi Awoonor, a renowned writer and poet. He told Kwami Sefa-Kayi on Peace FMs morning show Kokrokoo programme that the death of Prof Awoonor and the attack should send a signal that nowhere is safe. To him, it is a wake up call. The global effort to fight terrorism has failed and so it is now up to states like Ghana; individual countries to take it upon themselves...We are lacking in many areas and so we should begin to focus our attention in building institutions that will help in fighting terrorism and to look out for influx of people into our country. Karbo also urged institutions, Malls, airport to have effective CCTV cameras to help fish out people who have ill intention. With this, he said everything that goes on can be monitored and recorded. It is time we forget about politics...We should look at the best way forward in dealing with anti-terrorism in this country, he urged.
