Bee Keeping Business Lucrative - President

Mr Richard Okoe, President of Ghana National Bee Keepers Association, has urged the unemployed youth to venture into bee keeping because it was lucrative and easy to manage. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza, Mr Okoe, the Operations Manager of Nkoranza Kwabre Rural Bank, said bee keeping had a lot of prospects which the youth must undertake. He said it was unfortunate that most of the unemployed youth complained about lack of jobs and that bee keeping was one of the easiest agricultural practices because the bees that moved to settle in the bee hives trapped themselves in ordinary and natural ways and that there was no cost in their housing. The initial cost involved in the project is the preparation of the beehives and there is no application of any agricultural inputs or methods in the project, he said. Mr Okoe stressed the need for members of the Association to produce quality honey for the market in order to maintain Ghanas record as the producer of the best honey worldwide. Quality honey has ready market as the product is used worldwide, he said. Mr Okoe however appealed to people who collect loans from financial institutions to pay them for their colleagues to benefit.
