Afenyo Markin Speaks On NPP In-fighting

Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu, in the Central Region, has added his voice to the call for a cessation of hostilities on the seeming power struggle in his party; the New patriotic Party (NPP). The perceived infighting was perhaps heightened by a tour embarked upon by the leadership of the NPP to say Thank You to all party faithfuls for their support and prayers throughout the electioneering period of 2012 and the election petition trial. Nonetheless, this was vehemently opposed by a former Information Minister in the erstwhile Kufour Administration, Asamoah Boateng. The leadership of the party was accused of using the tour as a smokescreen to campaign for re-election. Aside this, there have been a back and forth firing of salvoes between some leading members of the opposition party including, the Executive Director of the Danquah Institute (DI), Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko and Dr. Kobina Arthur Kennedy, a one-time presidential aspirant, who believe the party should be directed onto different courses, at this point in time. But, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin believes that it is time to call a time-out on the in-fighting. Speaking on Adom Fm, the MP for Effutu bemoaned the state of affairs in the party, where very leading NPP personality wants to ride on the popularity of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the partys Flag bearer in the 2012 general elections, to campaign for re-election into executive positions of the party. What I want to tell our leaders is, they should do away with greed, pettiness and the unnecessary jostling for the flabearership, Hon. Afenyo-Markin pleaded.
