The Ho Female prison could pass for a home-away-from-home but for its tall barbed wire walls and iron-gate and the inscription �Ho Female Prison� which greet any visitor to the place.
The Ghana News Agency (GNA) was privileged to be among a 15-member entourage of the Ho Diocese of the Anglican Church which was allowed into the Prison on Saturday to donate food items worth 4,000 Ghana cedis to the 16 inmates.
The main yard of the Prison was well kept.
Instead of the stench, stuffy and crowded atmosphere which normally greet a visitor to a male Prison, the air in the Ho Female Prison was fresh with just 16 inmates.
The floors of the Prisoners� cubicles looked regularly scrubbed, the walls neat and smooth with the water-closets well washed as one peeped into those cubicles.
The inmates themselves, all neat appeared well looked after.
The relationship between the prisoners and the Prison Officers was summed up by an inscription, probably written by a Prisoner on the ceiling of one of the cubicles which read �God bless the officers.�
For entertainment, relaxation and education there is a multi-television.
Strikingly, there was a mother nursing a five-week old baby girl born in the Prison.
Innocently, Vicentia Mohammed warmly wrapped in a white sheet peacefully sucked the breast of her mother Alidu Sekina 28, from Kadjebi.
Sekina said her husband Razak Mohammed visited once while she was three months old in Prison. She was one month pregnant when she was imprisoned and due to gain her freedom in October.
Chief Officer Mama Darkugbo III, said the Prisons and some benevolent individuals provided clothes and items for the upkeep of little Vincentia.
