Workers of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has been advised to intensify their educational activities at all levels to rope in all unregistered Ghanaians. Mr James Mettle, Central Regional Manager of the National Health Insurance Authority, gave the advice when addressing nearly 200 NHIS workers in the Region in Cape Coast to run-off activities marking the 10th anniversary celebrations of the NHIS. Such sensitisation programmes, Mr Mettle said, must cover all organised groups, religious sects, schools and various associations to achieve the required impact at the district, municipal and metropolitan assembly levels. He said although the system had taken firm root in the Region, this should not create room for complacency among the workers since the overall success and sustainability of the scheme rest on their oars. Mr Augustine Acquah, Regional Monitoring and Evaluation Head of the scheme appealed to stakeholders of the policy to cooperate with the implementers of the programme to ensure greater achievements. Mr Acquah explained that the essence of the monitoring unit is to impress upon service providers to give out only their best and to entice clients of the scheme. Participants, who had earlier in the day paraded through the principal streets in Cape Coast in a float amidst brass-band music, were drawn from the 13 operational districts in the Region. The float was designed to rekindle the interest of both registered and non-members of the scheme resident in the regional capital in the health policy. Over 4,000 pamphlets containing vital educative information about the NHIS were distributed during the float to traders, workers, artisans, farmers, fishers, fishmongers, clergy men, storekeepers, students, hair-dressers and beauticians and a chunk of travellers in the regional capital.
