The Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) would by the end of this year start a courier service on a pilot basis. The company, aside its core-business of informing and entertaining its audience, was in August, 2013, licenced by the Postal and Courier Services Regulatory Commission to deliver dry cargo from Accra to Kumasi and vice-versa. The Managing Director of GCGL, Mr Kenneth Ashigbey, who announced this at the company�s staff durbar in Accra, said this would help increase the fortunes of the GCGL. In an interview, a senior manager of the company, Mr John Tagoe, said the pilot programme, when successful, would be replicated in other regions of the country. According to him, the company wants to take advantage of its newspaper delivery service, to deliver parcels to individuals and organisations in Accra and Kumasi. He explained that the parcels would include any non-liquid goods that had to be transported from Accra to Kumasi or from Kumasi to Accra. He said the company was looking at ways of increasing its fortunes and, therefore, it was working at ensuring that its delivery vans to Kumasi did not return empty. He said the company would in the near future, set up a business unit that would run the courier service business. When put on a large scale, Mr Tagoe said the company would look at partnership with other investors and bring on board stakeholders who would help turn the courier service into an international one.
