BOST Workers Embark On Demonstration

Workers of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation (BOST) Limited in Tema, have embarked on a demonstration to underscore the need for the state owned company to be authorized to import finished petroleum products. According to Mr. Eric Ahineku, the Executive Chairman of the labour union at BOST, the reason behind the industrial action is purely based on the fact that, workers of the company have been redundant due to the unavailability of petroleum products. In his view, the erratic supply of petroleum products is as a result of the fact that Private Distribution Companies (PDCs) who have been permitted to import fuel have now constructed storage facilities and therefore do not keep imported products at BOST anymore. there are fuel shortages always, in our work place but our work is to store fuel and release it into the system in times of need. But, we are always faced with shortages and that is our main reason for the demonstration. I think we (BOST) have not positioned ourselves well to import these products. I think Government and the Board of Governors must allow the company to import our own products but that duty has been given to the PDCs. And now, these PDCs have constructed tanks and barrels and do not bring their products for storage, he explained. Speaking on Adom FM, on behalf of the aggrieved workers, draped in red arm bands and chanting war songs, Mr. Ahineku made a passionate appeal to the government to come to the aid of the company by putting in-place pragmatic measures which would ensure a constant supply of petroleum products.
