Accident Claims 2 Lives

TWO PEOPLE, a driver and a 63-year-old woman, Helena Ako, on Wednesday met their untimely death at Abura Dunkwa in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese (AAK) District of the Central Region, when a Ford Bus with registration number GR8818S travelling from Kumasi to Takoradi got involved in an accident. The bodies have been deposited at the Abura Dunkwa Government Hospital Morgue and the Central Regional Hospital Morgue for autopsy. Fifteen other passengers who sustained serious injuries have been admitted at both the Abura Dunkwa Government Hospital and Central Regional Hospitals respectively. They include five females, two children and eight males. Briefing DAILY GUIDE, the Abura Dunkwa District Police Commander, DSP Bernard Twum Berimah said his outfit had information that an accident had occurred at about 500 kilometers away from the Police Barrier at Tsetsi Junction. DSP Twum Berimah stated that he and his men went to the scene when they were hinted that the accident had happened around 12:45 am on Wednesday. The Ford Bus which was travelling from Kumasi to Takoradi upon reaching the place hit a big tree by the roadside resulting in the accident. The Police Commander disclosed that it took the intervention of the fire service personnel to retrieve the injured and the dead woman from the car due to its great impact. DSP Twum Berimah noted that the fatal accident might have occurred due to speeding. He therefore advised drivers not to over speed when driving to reduce the high rate of accidents cases in the country. �The country is losing a lot of people who can contribute their quota towards the development of the country through accidents, so let us try to reduce the canker,� he added.
