Chirano Mines Wins EPA Award

Chirano Gold Mines Limited (CGML), a subsidiary of Kinross Gold Corporation, has been named as one of the best environmentally managed and socially responsible mines in Ghana by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). CGML, which is located in the Western region, emerged as one of the two topmost performers out of 16 mining companies audited in the 2012 Environmental Performance Rating titled Akoben Audit, which is conducted yearly by the EPA. The achievement is not just a significant milestone for Chirano but also historic as it is the first gold mining company in Ghana since the inception of the Akoben Audit in 2009 to have been rated Green by the EPA. The commitment of management of CGML to continuous improvement also affirms Kinross core values of Outstanding Corporate Citizenship and Putting People First. Kenneth Norris, Vice-President and General Manager, CGML, disclosed this to journalists. I am delighted to see CGML recognized by the EPA. This commendation is a reflection of the resilience, fortitude and hard work of our entire workforce, he added. He indicated that the company was committed to putting people first and continuously improving its performance in the areas of health, safety, environment and social responsibility. It has been a team effort and I will like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all our employees and congratulate them on their efforts in achieving this significant milestone.
