Im No 12 Player For Black Stars - Asantehene

THE ASANTEHENE, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has assured the Black Stars of his full support in their game against Egypt in Kumasi on Tuesday. He stated that although he would not visit the stadium, he would still be supporting the team in spirit. The Asantehene therefore told the players to believe that he would be serving as their number 12 player during the game. Otumfuo made the remarks when the entire Black Stars team paid a courtesy call on him at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Friday. An assortment of food items was served the Black Stars players, technical team and the GFA officials. Youth and Sports Minister, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah and his deputy, Joseph Yammin, were also there. The players were at the palace to seek the Asantehenes counsel, blessing and support before they face Egypt in a World Cup qualifier. Otumfuo told the players that the entire countrys destiny would be in their hands on Tuesday. In this regard, he urged the team to approach the contest with determination and oneness to beat Egypt. The Asantehene called for total unity among the squad, stressing that with unity and tenacity of purpose, the Black Stars would beat the Egyptians. He said Ghana was on the verge of qualifying for its third-straight FIFA World Cup in Brazil in 2014; and Egypt was the last obstacle so the team should attach importance to the game and record a resounding win in both legs. The Asantehene stressed on the need for the Black Stars to listen to their coach Kwasi Appiah during the game. Ghanaians, he stated, were looking for a resounding victory, so they should not disappoint them. The Black Stars, before visiting the Manhyia Palace, thronged the Central Mosque in Kumasi to pray with Muslims in the city. The senior national team later played a friendly game with Asokwa Deportivo, a Division One side, to test their might.
