Police Officer Grabbed Over Manslaughter

The Rapid Deployment Force (RDF) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested one of its men, Lance Corporal Frederick Odjer Narh, over the death of one Kwadwo Frafra at Odumase in the Sunyani West District. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Christopher Tawiah, Brong Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the story and told The General Telegraph that an accomplice of Frafra, 25, namely Alidu Ibrahim, has also been arrested and detained. The two are in police custody assisting in investigations. Narrating the story, he said on the night of Monday, October 14, this year, a five-member patrol team of the RDF on mobile patrol at Odumase found two young men suspected to be smoking Indian hemp and on seeing the police they took to their heels and were pursued. ASP Tawiah said Ibrahim was arrested but Frafra on realizing that only a policeman was chasing him, tried to disarm the policeman and tore his uniform. The rifle went off in the tussle, hitting Frafra in the left armpit. He said Frafra managed to run away to a distance of about 200 metres and fell down in someones house. People nearby called the police and informed them about the incident. ASP Tawiah said Lance Corporal Narh identified the man as the person who struggled with him but he was not aware that the man had been hit by a bullet. The corpse has been deposited at the Sunyani Regional Hospital morgue for autopsy.
