Second Lady Presents Computers To School

Mrs. Matilda Amissah-Arthur, wife of the Vice President, on Thursday stressed the need for stakeholders in Basic Education, especially parents and teachers, to save children from the misuse of the Internet. She said the increasing misuse of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) by the youth to perpetrate crimes such as internet fraud and other social vices remained a cause for worry. "The practice needs to be curtailed in order to secure a good future for the younger generation," Mrs Amissah-Arthur said when she presented computers and accessories to the Kordiabe Roman Catholic Basic School, at Kordiabe in the Shai- Osudoku District. The computers were secured by the Second Lady from the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication (GIFTEC) would be used to equip the school�s computer science laboratory, to enhance the teaching and learning of ICT. Mrs Amissah-Arthur appealed to the teachers and parents to guide children against the misuse of tools that could be inimical to their development and support in effectively addressing the menace to save children from destructive tendencies. She said ICT held good prospects for the development of children and advised children to utilize it to improve their learning through the acquisition of information about subjects and research on their study topics. �Our children must use ICT in a way that would impact positively on them,� she said. Mrs Amissah-Arthur commended Management of the school for its efforts in improving the level of education in the area in spite of inadequate resources and expressed optimism that the provision of the computer would be of great help and promised to get more support towards the development of the school. Mr Anthony Azumah, Administrative Director of the Shai- Osudoku District Education Directorate, expressed appreciation to Mrs Amissah-Arthur for the donation. He said the Directorate was grappling with the problem of inadequate ICT facilities to cater for the training of a high number of pupils and students and called for more assistance in that regard.
