Kumasi-Mampong Highway Accident: The Mangled 207 Benz Bus (PHOTO)

Nine out of 23 passengers on board a Benz 207 mini bus perished in a horrible accident at the outskirts of Asonomaso on the Kumasi-Mampong highway after the bus collided with a Man Diesel truck. Eight of them died on the spot, while another died while on admission at the Ankaase Methodist Hospital. All the nine bodies have been deposited at the Ankaase Methodist Hospital mortuary, while 13 others who are said to be in critical conditions are on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), the Ankaase Methodist Hospital and the Agona Government Hospital. According to the Kona Police, the Benz 207 mini bus, with registration number GR 2312V, was travelling from Kumasi to Ejura. When the bus reached the outskirts of Asonomaso, the driver of the tipper truck, with registration number GR 8736 U, loaded with chippings, failed to observe that there were oncoming vehicles and drove the truck onto the road, causing the oncoming bus to hit the bucket of the truck. The bus somersaulted several times before landing in a ditch.
