Soldier Stoned To Coma In Bawku

A few days after the shooting to death of three persons in Bawku Township, information available to the Daily Heritage indicates that a soldier has also collapsed after being stoned by a teenager. According to the report, the soldier, who is part of the peace keeping troops in the town, in an attempt on Sunday, October 20, 2013 to stop a mob attack on a suspected thief was unexpectedly stoned by an unidentified young man. The soldier, according to the report, collapsed instantly and had to be rushed to the Bawku Hospital for treatment. But the suspect, who stoned the military officer was said to have been arrested yesterday for further investigations into the matter. The incident follows separate shootings to death of three persons over the weekend. One person was on Friday night shot dead and two others injured at Sagabo in Bawku by an unidentified man. The second person was also shot in his home at Possum also in Bawku on Saturday night by two assailants. The third person, Osmanu Inusah, 55 years old, was shot on Saturday night at about 19:45 hours. But sources from Bawku, however, said the shooting incidents were not linked to the protracted conflicts in the area. A resident of Bawku, speaking to the paper said there was no sign of tension rising in the town because two of the victims were shot during a robbery attack in those areas.
