Fair Wages Commission Asked To Expedite Action On Market Premium

The Local Government Workers Union says it is a distinct unionised body mandated to organise workers of Local Government Service Secretariat, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies and Departments. It therefore has no relationship with CLOGSAG. Addressing a news conference in Accra, the Union explained that it was formed in 1960 and is an authentic representative and mouth piece of all Local Government Sector workers. The Local Government Workers Union appealed to the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to expedite action on the intended labour survey to determine which category of workers is entitled to enjoy the market premium. The Union reminded all Local Government service employees to ensure that they are registered under the second tier occupational scheme under section 1 (b) of the National Pensions Act.
