Dredging of River Tordzie signal development-Chief

Togbe Agbobada, IV, a Senior Divisional Chief of Adaklu Traditional area has noted that dredging of channels of the bridge on river Tordzie at Adaklu-Waya signals the commencement of all-round development of Adaklu-District. The nagging issue of the waters of the River Tordzie bursting its banks around the bridge after every heavy rain, inundating farms, roads and causing deaths is being tackled and from there, we are moving on, he stated. Togbe Agbobada was speaking to Ghana News Agency on Thursday when he led about 20 chiefs and queens from the Adaklu-Traditional Area to inspect dredging works going on under the auspices of the Adaklu District Assembly. The bridge has a total of 10 passageways, eight of which are choked. For us the chiefs, the dredging works are most welcome and should represent a call to all Adaklu to gird their loins for an assault on underdevelopment and poverty, he said. Togbe Agbobada at a media briefing said the incessant overflow of water normally cut off the predominantly farming communities from markets in the Akatsi-South District, Akatsi-North and other marketing centres. Adaklu District was carved from the Adaklu-Anyigbe District in 2012. It is a deprived area and lack facilities such as tar roads. The people are predominantly farmers. Resources in the district include expansive plains, rivers, rocks, mountains and proximity to urban marketing centres, such as Ho. Togbe Agbobada mentioned granite and clay deposits as resources which should attract investors in pottery, bricks and tile industries. He said a tourist industry could be built around the Adaklu mountains, said to be volcanic and harbours vast game reserves, holding rare animals and birds. Togbe Agbobada said the chiefs would give their individual and collective support to the District Chief Executive, Mr Sky Emmanuel Ganaku and Mr Kwame Agbodza, Member of Parliament for Adaklu in discharging their duties to open up the district. He expressed the need for the roads which are in a deplorable state in the district to be fixed. Mr Ganaku said as part of efforts to tackle the huge development deficit Adaklu he summoned a meeting with stakeholders in education to discuss paths to take to return the district to the ranks of good educational performers in the country. He said issues of education would run neck-to-neck with the infrastructural development of the district.
