4 Fire Officers At National Security After Leading Court Suit Against Their Bosses

Information reaching The Independent has revealed that four junior rank officers of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), who spearheaded the agitation and court suit against top shots of the Service have been unreasonably transferred from their duty posts. The four (all Station Officer)firemen who marshaled their colleagues against their superiors and the Service for alleged improprieties are said to have been moved to the National Security Secretariat on attachment. It will be recalled that The Independent carried a story on alleged rot, corrupt and massive discrimination charges leveled against some senior officers; a story that went viral in the media and the public domain. The juniors were and are still unhappy with their bosses because of unexplained delays in promotions as well as facing them to write promotional exams when the statues of the GNFS do not particularly allow under the current circumstances. The hue and cry of the juniors against their superiors resulted in a court injunction on the exams which was slated for early October. In an interesting twist of events, the four leaders of the suit have been directed to henceforth see National Security as their new office. The affected officers are John Anyorigiya, Lawrence Lamptey both were hitherto at Weija division, Victor Boahem of industrial area and Ashley Ayibontey of Osu Castle division. Though going on attachment is not anything new in the GNFS and in public service, what makes this transfer quite suspicious is the fact that all the affected persons are playing lead roles in the court suit coupled with the timing of the transfer. Mr. Anyrigiya who was on leave was recalled for transfer, while a fifth person named supposedly Lamptey whose name popped up for attachment was dropped after the transfer master-minders allegedly realized that he was not a member of their hate group. What is also unclear is that, nobody known the reason for the attachment. Whether it is an arrest for refusal to obey lawful authorities (as defined in the Cambridge Dictionary) or their expertise are needed for a project at the national Security Secretariat. Speaking to The Independent, one of the four, they received letters directing them to report to the state office last Wednesday, October 23. According to him, no duties were stated in the letter and since reporting to their new mobile duty post, they were yet to received their specific roles and duties they are to perform there. The transferred officers also alleged that their mobile phones were collected when they reported at the National security on Wednesday. Their phones, they said, were given to back to them later in the day. According to them, they believed the transfer is only to reprimand them for championing the cause of their fellow juniors. The Ghana National Fire Service has recently been in the media lime light for all the bad reasons, included purchasing of fake new uniforms which contained condoms and cigarettes.
