"Intensify spread of the gospel"- Rev Asante

The Methodist Church Ghana (MCG), has inducted Lay Chairmen for six of its Dioceses at a ceremony in Kumasi with a call on the church to intensify the spread of the gospel to bring hope and overcome inhumanity. The Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante, the Presiding Bishop, said all members of the church needed to work together with unity of purpose to promote the physical and spiritual growth of the society. The Lay Chairmen sworn- in were from Kumasi, Tarkwa, Sunyani, Effiduase, Obuasi and the Northern Ghana Dioceses. They would each serve a three-year term. The Most Rev Prof Asante reminded them of their responsibility to assist strengthen the internal structures of the church to enhance its activities. He recognized the significant role the Lay Movement had played since the late 1940s, in the promotion of Methodism by way of evangelism, infrastructural development and other outreach programmes. He cautioned against any unhealthy competition between the laity and the clergy, pointing out that, the church could not achieve its mission without good understanding, cooperation and a united front. �We need to overcome our own interests and differences and unite to maintain cohesion in the church.� Mr. Kwasi Atta-Antwi, the Kumasi Diocesan Lay Chairman, thanked the church for the confidence reposed in them and pledged that they would not disappoint but work with zeal and passion to grow the church.
