Students Clash Over Girl 5 Sustain Machete Wounds

Five students sustained severe machete wounds during a clash between students of Benkum Senior High School at Akuapem Larteh and St. Martins Senior High School at Nsawam, both in the Eastern Region over a girl. The victims, two males and three females, all students of Benkum S.H.S are on admission at the Mampong Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital receiving treatment. Information gathered by the Daily Heritage and confirmed by the police indicates that, Benkum S.H.S on Saturday organized a funfair which many students from different schools including 15 male students of St. Martins S.H.S at Nsawam attempted at around 5pm. During the programme, the students of St. Martins S.H.S attempted to dance with a female student of Benkum S.H.S, but were resisted by the male students of Benkum S.H.S. This generated confusion among the students. The students of St. Martins S.H.S rushed into their school bus to grab machetes and other dangerous weapons and attacked their rival students of Benkum S.H.S. Five students of Benkum S.H.S sustained serious injuries, while others were mercilessly assaulted. Sources indicate that the students after committing the offense took to their heels. However, the police have been able to arrest one of the suspects, Emmanuel Pardi, 17, to assist in investigation. Speaking to the deputy Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Seargent Gideon Boateng, he said the police would collaborate with the authorities of the two schools to get the suspects arrested. Attempts made to speak to the school authorities when the paper visited the school proved futile.
