Eastern Region, Not Ashanti Let Akuffo Addo Down In 2008 & 2012

A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region has denied that it was the region which let Nana Akufo-Addo down in the 2008 and 2012 elections. She countered, rather, it was the Eastern Region who let down their own son Akufo-Addo, the figures available attest to that. Taking a cue from the Eastern guru who declined to mention her name, she also declined to have her name made public. She said the Eastern NPP will have to find out how the region voted more for ex-President John Kufuor in 2004 than it did for Nana Akufo-Addo in 2008 and 2012. She explained, in 2004, the margin of victory of Kufuor over the late Atta Mills (of the NDC) was 201,577 to 137,998 votes. This meant votes. In 2008, (first a loss of 63,576 votes. In the round), Akufo-Addos 2008 run-off, the margin of margin of victory over victory was 140,089, an increase of only 2,019 votes over the 2008 first round results. In percentage terms, whilst Kufuor had 60.3%, Akufo-Addo had 57.1% (2008 first round and 57.5% (2008 run-off). She then touched on the 2012 election, the story seemed the same, the margin of victory of Akufo-Addo over the NDC John Mahama was 155,887 votes, far below Kufuors 2004 margin of victory. In percentage terms, Akufo-Addo had 56.3% in 2012. Less than the 57.1% he obtained in 2008 (first round). She stretched her hands out and said I am done.
